Cowrie Grill opens at the heart of Greenhills
Nov 5, 2013
The days of tableside service once seemed over, but at Cowrie Grill, it feels like the magic has come back as the signature restaurant of the Manila Hotel keeps the élan and flair of intimate dinner experiences alive with its newly-opened branch in San Juan.
Opened in 1977 at the Manila Hotel, the Cowrie Grill is exactly the place where dishes are prepared in the highest of standards. The servers are always at their utmost manners and will consider care of guests from the moment they step in, up to the moment they leave. The restaurant attracts serious gourmands eager to sample the chef’s signature creations prepared tableside. Guests delight in a feast for the senses with the spectacle, sizzle, smell, and exquisite flavours. Completing the experience is the signature restaurant’s display lavished in the soft amber glow of thousands of cowrie shells – making it a place where guests create intimate and unforgettable moments with family and friends.
After more than three decades of unrivalled quality of service and food, dining at Greenhills has taken on a whole new pizzazz with the revival of the Cowrie Grill. From the scrumptious appetizers to the luscious desserts, patrons of the Cowrie Grill can harken back memories of the Grande Dame’s classic restaurant while creating new ones with its modern take on the ultimate grill house experience.
Earlier today, media guests and VIPs celebrated the opening of the Cowrie Grill at the heart of the Promenade Shopping Center in Greenhills. Guests luxuriated themselves with the masterfully prepared repertoire of dishes served against a backdrop of relaxed sophistication. Reminiscent of its past decor at the Manila Hotel, the restaurant masterfully retained the Grand Dame’s iconic cowrie shell display in its interiors.
“Cowrie Grill goes far beyond serving dishes because we create unforgettable moments. Classic grill house service beyond compare, that’s what we stand for,” said Manila Hotel Executive Vice President Dr. Enrique Yap. “We are offering intimate dining experiences – something that makes our patrons sit up and notice. Something that commands attention, is thoughtfully made, and is created with great attention to details – similar to what people experience at Manila Hotel. At Cowrie Grill, we look forward to making every minute of our guests’ visit nothing short of exceptional and memorable.”
The iconic grill house offers signature creations with the highest standards. Chef Mike So Chan and his highly trained team deftly performed before the guests’ very eyes, commencing the outstanding dining rite with an elaborate rendition of the freshly tossed Maitre’D Caesar Salad. The grand show continued as guests indulged in broiled-to-perfection Angus prime rib, paired with the finest cognac and wine from Cowrie Grill’s very own bar.

Ending the magnificent dining event was a finale act revealing a favorite dessert, Baked Alaska, flambéed in spectacular tableside fashion. With the revival of one of the trademarks of a true grill house that is tableside service, the enthralling experience at the Cowrie Grill evoked hosannas for the haute cuisine, dazzling each and every guest.
The Cowrie Grill certainly satisfies the palate of the discriminating gourmet. From the signature creations to the wine list to the ambience, the Cowrie Grill promises to impress and surprise its patrons with every visit.
